Beloved Cyclist Abraham Ehlers Dies in Tragic Motorcycle Accident on Beach Drive in Bethesda, MD

Abraham Michael Ehlers, a cherished member of the cycling community, tragically passed away on September 15, 2025, after a solo motorcycle crash in Bethesda, MD.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Montgomery County Fire Rescue and 2nd District Police responded to the scene on Beach Drive, between Rockville Pike and Knowles Avenue in the Kensington area. Ehlers, riding a 2006 black Suzuki DR-Z400, lost control and veered into the wood line. Despite the swift response, authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

Known for his warmth, energy, and competitive spirit, Abraham was an avid member of the Artemis Cycling Team. Fellow cyclists, such as Frank Shewmaker, remembered him for his exceptional racing abilities and the joy he brought to every ride.

"He was exceptional in races, but it was his joy and kindness that made him unforgettable," said Shewmaker.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, and authorities are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

Abraham's legacy is etched in the hearts of all who knew him. His love for cycling, his infectious laughter, and his support for fellow riders will never be forgotten.
