Coach Demetrice Beverly, a respected and beloved mentor in the Birmingham school system, tragically lost his life on August 13, 2025. He was found dead in an apartment after an unexpected confrontation with 23-year-old De’Corlion Keshaun Robinson, who had returned home to find Coach Beverly visiting his longtime girlfriend.
The heartbreaking incident occurred in the apartment that Robinson shared with his girlfriend, who worked alongside Beverly at Children’s of Alabama. Beverly had been invited over to relax and watch a movie, but things escalated when Robinson arrived home unexpectedly. In the midst of a confrontation, Robinson reportedly fired a gun, claiming he intended to fire a warning shot. However, the gun allegedly “kept firing,” leading to the tragic loss of Coach Beverly’s life.
The Birmingham community has been left in mourning, with loved ones, students, and colleagues deeply affected by the loss. Coach Beverly had a strong reputation as a guiding figure for students and a valued leader within the community.
