Brooks Houck Sentenced to Life for Crystal Rogers’ Disappearance, Leaving a Community in Mourning

Brooks Houck, convicted in the 2015 disappearance of his former girlfriend, Crystal Rogers, was sentenced to life in prison on September 17, 2025, in Bardstown, KY.

The case, which has haunted the community for years, saw Houck receive a life sentence for Rogers’ murder, alongside complicity in tampering with physical evidence. Joseph “Joey” Lawson, a co-defendant, was sentenced to 25 years for conspiracy to commit murder and tampering.

Crystal Rogers, 35, was a mother of five, and her vanishing during the 2015 Fourth of July weekend left her family devastated. Rogers’ car was discovered abandoned on the Bluegrass Parkway, with her purse and personal belongings inside. Her body has never been found. Despite various pieces of evidence pointing toward Houck’s involvement, his statements contradicted cell phone records and other crucial details.

Rogers’ mother, Sherry Ballard, expressed deep sorrow in court, asking Houck to reveal where her daughter’s body lies for the sake of Rogers’ son, Eli. Ballard spoke directly to Houck, telling him that he belonged behind bars for the rest of his life.

As Houck begins his life sentence, Rogers' family continues their fight for answers and closure.
